One of our objectives is to spread the thoughts of Tagore to different corners of the country and beyond and also to encourage this interest in the younger generation.
As a prelude to the main festival last year, we took Tagore to schools through Chhelebela, a Children's Theatre Festival. It was organised in collaboration with Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre. A panel of judges were asked to review the productions and the chosen one performed at Gyan Manch as a part of Rabindra Utsav.
The theatre productions, were based on different genres of Tagore's writings and were presented mainly by students from Middle School - young girls and boys of an impressionable age group who would be imbibing the thoughts and values of Tagore.
This year, before the schools start with their productions, we held a workshop with eminent theatre directors like Ms. Dolly Basu, Ms. Zarine Chowdhury & Mr. Gautam Haldar. Teachers from the participating schools attended the workshop.
